The guidance department serves as a resource to involve families and the community in the counseling program. Finally, it the the mission to promote growth, self-awareness, appreciation of diversity and love of learning among the students.
Beginning with the September 2018-2019 school year, Cicely L. Tyson Elementary School has conscientiously implemented the requirements found in the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act by educating our staff, students, and parents on Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying.
During the first two years of implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, Cicely L. Tyson Elementary School has made progress in addressing and improving harassment, intimidation and bullying and the school climate and culture by implementing programs such as Second Step, No Name Calling Week, Respect Week, Peace Month, classroom presentations addressing HIB and other on going daily activities such as, morning announcements addressing diversity, respect, tolerance, accepting differences etc… Furthermore, we have made improvement in educating our parents by having workshops, sending home newsletters, letters with ideas and posting information throughout our building and websites regarding HIB information and prevention.
While completing the self-assessment, we learned that our school demonstrated strengths in these areas: HIB investigative procedures, HIB personnel, Curriculum and Instruction and Training Programs.
During the upcoming year, Cicely L. Tyson Elementary School will be working towards and seek your involvement in strengthening our HIB programs, approaches or other initiatives.
